Every show is fully accessible — Braille, sign language, audio description — and held in a public gallery, not a side room.
Exhibitions are one strand of Maqaam's practice. Alongside them we run programmes in slum communities, awareness circles, welfare counselling and skilling residencies — sixty NGO partners deep.
Maqaam takes hygiene, drawing and personal-development sessions into the camps where the state rarely arrives — teaching art online through the pandemic, and running month-long personality programmes with slum children in Delhi.
Awareness events at clubs, colleges and academic campuses turn each exhibition into a public forum — with sign-language interpreters, braille descriptions, and audio-assisted image descriptions.
Beyond exhibitions, Maqaam runs a quieter practice — scholarship help, college-admission guidance, disability-rights counselling, and support with pension and welfare paperwork.
From tribal Mashan painting in Delhi to nature-art camps in the Himalayas, Maqaam runs residencies that give disabled and neurodiverse artists new mediums, new venues and new audiences.
Maqaam means a place of standing. Since 2022 we have built that place — inclusive exhibitions where artists with disabilities and neurodiverse artists are shown beside everyone else, and known first as artists.
